About the Event
In this 10-week course, we’ll study Bhagavad Gita - Chapter 15, Purushottam Yoga, The Science of the Supreme.
The beautiful imagery in this chapter presents the mystical peepal tree, ashwattha tree, that has its roots in the sky and its branches growing downward into the world.
You’ll learn the distinction between the world, comprising the mind and body, which is constantly changing, and the forever-free eternal unchanging Knower, the source and truth of who we are.
Called Ashwattha in Sanskrit, the peepal tree is considered sacred to the many peoples of India. It is also referred to as the Bodhi tree in Buddhism. It is believed that Gautama Buddha is named for the Bodhi tree, under which he attained enlightenment while meditating.
In each class, we will be focusing on two verses of the 20 in Chapter 15. Learning how to pronounce the Sanskrit, deconstruct each words’ meaning, and diving deeply into the significance of each verse and the chapter as a whole. In addition, we will be exploring how it relates to our everyday lives.
Each week, you will receive two PDFs with that week’s verses in Sanskrit, transliterated into English, word for word translations, and a selection of meanings of the verses as a whole. In addition, each week, you’ll also receive two MP3s of the verses being sung in Sanskrit for you to practice. All of the classes will be livestreamed to a private Facebook group where you’ll be able to watch them anytime, so you’ll never have to miss a class.
We are looking forward to seeing you.
